Governor Scott's Re-Election
Thursday, 13 March 2014 13:54

FCMA is supporting the re-election of Governor Scott (some of the reasons are spelled out below).  If you are interested in contributing to his campaign and wish to bundle your contribution with FCMA’s, please let us know.

Governor Scott is running for re-election this year.  We wanted to provide you with some facts and figures to share with your management teams, friends, relatives and employees about his accomplishments for the State of Florida and manufacturers in his first term as Governor.  Below are just a few of his accomplishments for Florida:

1. Governor Scott championed the MAF legislative agenda last year resulting in the elimination of the sales tax on manufacturing machinery and equipment for the next three years, beginning on April 30 of this year.

2. Governor Scott took on state regulation by eliminating 3,000 regulations on small businesses.

3. He took the tough stance of paying down state debt in the worst of economic times and the debt was reduced by $3.6 billion improving Florida’s financial rating.

4. His administration has been influential in cutting taxes 24 times.

5. Under his guidance, Florida’s unemployment rate has dropped from 11.1% to 6.3% in 3 years.

6. Florida has added over 460,000 jobs since Governor Scott took office.

7. Florida is currently tied for having the largest drop in unemployment in the country.

And he is not slowing down….

8. This year Governor Scott is proposing another $500 million in tax cuts, including a decrease in corporate taxes and a roll back of taxes paid on commercial real estate leases.  Further, he is proposing an additional $30 million for training employees - $9 million of that is proposed to be set aside for manufacturers.    MAF supports all of these initiatives.

So what’s not to like about this Governor??   He is good for Florida and he is good for manufacturers.  Please share his great record!

Vac-Con LEAN Audit
Wednesday, 29 January 2014 14:14

Vac-Con's safety and maintenance team, led by Rob Caldwell, got the highest grade in all of production, and second highest in the company in a facility wide 5S audit.

Continuous Improvement in the form of LEAN and 5S tools, intersect with safety across the board because a well-organized workplace that improves your flow and efficiencies, also by nature is a safer environment for the process owners. It’s a win- win for all involved.

Vac-Con says, "We currently have an engaged team drawn from all work centers and pay levels, acting in unison to bring issues from our process owners to the fore-front where we develop action plans to respond accordingly.

"The audit was a fantastic opportunity for process owners on one side of our 17 acre campus to get insights into how process operations and people in other work centers carry out their tasks and the specific issues they deal with in the different environments. From the fabrication and machine shops to the welding areas to the design engineering areas, all have their issues, and process owners gained greater appreciations for their co-workers from “across the way” whom they have seldom seen or visited.

"The safety group will re-audit monthly with work centers getting posted scores and plotted tracking of scores over time."

FL Property Tax Deadline and Ideas to help you save tax dollars
Monday, 20 January 2014 19:41

The Florida Property Tax Filing Deadline is April 1, 2014 - Ideas to Consider now to save property tax dollars in 2014

The property tax filing deadline is just around the corner - April 1, 2014. Here are a few things to remember that can save your company property tax dollars.

  1. Florida taxing jurisdictions offer favorable treatment to manufacturing facilities that have investment in pollution control assets. You need to go through a certification process but it could be well worth the time for 2014 and future years’ savings. The deadline for filing the application is the same as the deadline for the personal property return — for the 2014 tax year it is April 1, 2014.
  2. Be sure that the Florida property appraisers are valuing your property using the correct Florida Department of Revenue depreciation schedules. With property appraisers valuing thousands of properties on a mass appraisal basis it is in the tax payer’s best interest to make sure that the proper economic life is being applied to the personal property.
